Little Snitch is a helpful app to block apps from “phoning home” without your knowledge. If you have recently switched from Windows to Mac, you may find that most Windows keyboard shortcuts don’t work on a Mac. If an app’s usage seems relatively high, you might want to investigate if an app is talking to the web server without your knowledge. The Network tab shows information about how your Mac is uploading and downloading network data. It also shows if it’s a 32- or 64-bit process. The Disk tab shows the amount of data that a process has read from and written back to your hard drive. The preventing sleep tab shows if an app is actually preventing the Mac from going to sleep on its normal schedule. App nap-enabled apps consume very little energy when they aren’t in the foreground. This section shows which apps support it. App nap is a relatively new feature to OS X. The average impact tab is a measure of the impact over the past 8 hours (or since startup if it’s been less than 8 hours). The impact tab is a measure of how a process is affecting energy consumption. The Energy tab is extremely useful for laptop users. Swap used is the space on your hard drive used by the Mac’s memory management process. Virtual memory is the amount of memory-address space that is being allocated for memory mapping. Memory used is the amount currently being used at the current time. Physical memory is the amount of RAM your Mac actually has installed. 3/2/2024 0 Comments Stun spore vs sleep powderJolteon is a good revenge killer due to its speed, high special, and STAB thunderbolt. Soft Boiled and Thunderwave is to make sure you don't have fun. The only thing out of the norm on this Tauros is fire blast, fire blast is used on the Tauros ditto for the burn chance for a upper cut in the ditto and a just in case if Tauros gets freezed.Ĭhansey, another top 3'er with Tauros, this is the boltbeam chansey, not an uncommon set, which threatens a lot of good pokemon, thunder threatening starmie and lapras, and ice beam threatening Rhydon, Exeggutor, Zapdos, and a lesser extent Chansey. Tauros is probably the top 1 OU Pokemon, his Body Slam is notorious and a powerful stab, hyperbeam is also as notorious, strong, stab, and crits when needed. Jynx is my lead, as it is a very common 1, this is by far the most common Jynx, Psychic and Blizzard are great STABs and Lovely Kiss is for putting pokemon asleep, and of course rest is for healing, like a said nothing unique. I've been playing gen 1 ou for awhile now but I got a new PC so I had to remake my teams, mostly my gen 1 and gen 5 ou teams, and changed a few things and want people's opinion on them! ![]() Ultimately the competitive answer here is "just put a Snorlax on the team" but I don't want to stray away from what your intent was so here we are. Ultimately I'd just do my best to never let Lax in for free and try to make it enter vs unparalyzed Rhydon, Chansey, or Victreebel so you can keep it under relative control. Counter Chansey is a funny consideration to help with that but is subject to so many ways that can go wrong and you'd lose your Boltbeam coverage. Snorlax will also be a big problem for this team each time it gets in you might consider Rest on Rhydon to eternally wall Snorlaxes that lack EQ or Ice Beam, but even then, it's just rough, as a lot of Laxes will have these moves. Hyper Beam lets Victreebel threaten KOs into mons like Chansey and Alakazam without having to Wrap pivot in your Tauros to finish, EQ Tauros gives you more ways to handle Gengar, and Rest Jolteon stops you getting eternally walled by paralyzed Chansey if you lose your Rhydon, plus lets you keep it hidden longer to wait for an opportune moment. While you still have to watch out for lead Gengar sending you straight to a 5v6, and for a potential Rhydon sweep if your Victreebel goes down and Jynx absorbs sleep (as it should), this team should be a little more robust to the tier as a whole. With that said, here's my suggested team: I think you need to commit harder to using your speed control with Jolteon (over everything else) and Vic (over Eggy and the normals) to compensate for no Snorlax and use more aggressive sets, mainly on Vic, while increasing coverage on Tauros. its a laxless team with a lot of weaknesses but it's a cool idea. ![]() Rhydon: I think non-Rest Rhydon in back is cool with this team, Jolteon can check opposing electrics so you can hide this till endgame and surprise the opponent with a sweep once you paralyze or chip down their threats. Normally I'd want to just drop Razor Leaf but your team has a lot of holes Rhydon can exploit so I think you may want to keep it. Body Slam is also an option to fish for paraslams on switches while still doing damage. ![]() Stun Spore Wrap Razor Leaf Hyper Beam can work or you could drop Stun for Swords Dance if you think you can get away with the setup turn by scaring out a paralyzed Starmie or such. That said, drop Sleep on it - if you're gonna commit to a Jynx lead you should really commit and use it to free up a non-sleeper in back. Victreebel: I actually like this a lot particularly for ladder, since ladder so often has really slow teams vulnerable to the Wrap God. Your Jolteon is gonna have to do a lot of work checking Boltbeam Chansey since you have no Psychics to paralyze and Special drop it to facilitate your Rhydon entering the fight. Jolteon: Super recommend dropping Pin Missile it doesn't really do enough compared to having Rest so you can infinitely pressure opposing Chansey. ![]() IMO, use the standard Tauros.Ĭhansey: Also standard, I think boltbeam is the right call here with no psychics on your team to help beat things like Zapdos, Rhydon, etc if you ever let a Rhydon get in on your Chansey you're in a really horrible place so ideally you need to find ways to avoid taking paralysis. You could run Fire Blast over Blizzard and have Earthquake, which does leave you something of a Rhydon weakness relative to Blizzard, but I really don't think you can afford to have only 1 mon that answers Gengar (Rhydon). Tauros: I think given the rest of your team (Jynx lead, no Lax, Victreebel) you can't afford Fire Blast over EQ here, as it leaves you super weak to Gengar, who outspeeds Jynx, walls Victreebel, and walls EQless Tauros. Jynx: This is bog-standard, not much to say here. ![]() Hence why we called the record 'Liquor', it makes you feel things on a lot of different spectrums and in different ways. The system is believed to have come into use in England around 1300 and was used in the international wool trade. It is based on the avoirdupois system, a system that uses weights in terms of the avoirdupois pound, which was standardized in 1959. History/origin: Pound-force per square inch is a unit that originated in the imperial and US customary systems of units. ![]() One psi is approximately 6,895 pascals (N/m 2). It is defined as the pressure that results when a force of one pound-force is applied to a one-square-inch area. Pound-force per square inch(Psi)ĭefinition: A pound-force per square inch (symbol: psi) is an imperial and US customary unit of pressure based on avoirdupois units. Meteorologists and weather reporters worldwide often use this unit for convenience, since working in pascals would result in much larger values. Millibars (symbol: mb) are also commonly used when referencing atmospheric air pressure, where atmospheric pressure equals 1013.25 mbar (101.325 kPa). The International Bureau of Weights and Measures has specified the bar as a unit that authors should have the freedom to use but has chosen not to include the bar in the list of non-SI units accepted for use with SI. The term “bar” comes from the Greek word “baros,” which means weight.Ĭurrent use: Although the bar is a metric unit of pressure, it is not accepted within the International System of Units (SI) and is even deprecated within certain fields. History/origin: The unit, bar, was introduced by Vilhelm Bjerknes, a Norwegian meteorologist who founded modern weather forecasting. It is equal to 0.987 atmospheres (101,325 Pa), the unit often used as a reference of standard pressure. Definition: A bar (symbol: bar) is a metric unit of pressure that is defined as exactly 100,000 pascals (symbol: Pa). ![]() PS Agree wrt antifreeze and pets - my brother's cat died after drinking from a puddle of antifreeze/water under his car. I also bought a refractometer to check the ratio of glycol to water in the overflow bottle, and it does seem to indicate that the mixture will gradually acquire a slightly higher glycol ratio, (ie the water does gradually reduce), but I just top up occasionally with more 50/50 mix, or even a slightly higher distilled water ratio. Hi Alf,I had also read that they then swung back to recommending the 50/50 glycol/water again. We run the 50/50 in our 80hp 912A with no problem. ![]() By the way anybody doing coolant changes be VERY careful that your pets never drinks the stuff as it is SWEET but will kill them very quickly from renal failure - My Veterinary tip for the forum one thing I found today was the difference in prices with the Evans propylene glycol waterless being so much more expensive than the 50/50 water based ethylene glycol. Hey Keith - yes I agree as new things are developed we need to look at these. As yet I have not heard of any coolants failing, organics are there too.Īs I see the subject we must do the new research as things have changed. In a nut shell the process of the coolant is to transfer the heat from the engine to the radiator which dissipates the heat hence coolants must go around and around and continue the process without failure.Even in the mining industry coolants are evolving, for good reference points look at some of coolants as they must transfer great abundance of heat to the outside world. So much so that we're thinking of putting on the oil line an optional thermostat Tecnam approves. As I see it the coolant chemistry is changing and this some of the teachings from the radiator shops. So much so that even in the summer we have to put some aluminum tape over part of either the oil radiator, coolant radiator, or both to get them to run up in optimum tempurature ranges for oil for decent part of the flight. I MIGHT be able to find out by calling the A&P guy who did that 3 years ago.Īs for the reported issue of the engines running hot because Evans doesn't have as high heat transfer capacity:Īll I can say is that in OUR case both Rotax engines I have (the old 80HP on a Skyranger, newer 100 on Tecnam), both under pretty tight cowls, (one with traditional coolant, one with Evans) both run very much on the COOL side, even when climbing with outdoor temps high. Good point about finding out if they're mixable from Evans(will go to Evans and try to find that out) because in the engine log the note on installing Evans doesn't say WHICH one is in there. Thanks for your, as usual, considered advice, Roger. ![]() Open air engines usually didn't have an issue, but tight cowl engines did. This put many up to and or over the max temp for the engine. Most have gotten away from Evans because it carries a 20F-30F temp penalty depending on the application. Unless the coolant in the system has a color you may not be able to tell which one is in there. This may be a better question about mixing either of the three directly with Evans unless it states something on their website. (I know adding more than a tiny trace of water to Evans is a general no-no,Īnd AFAIK shouldn't add other coolants to it.) I know that Rotax isn't pushing Evans as hard as it once was, and that the other coolants are fine, but since it's in there already figure I'd keep it.īut want to have a little extra around in case I ever need to top it up. ![]() Unlike our older 912UL this one had Evans coolant put in it a couple of years ago. Shore diving with mantas is a unique Hawaiian experience that many people pay a lot of money for. Night dives are inherently more dangerous than their daytime counterparts, but with a good light and some intelligence you can complete this dive safely and easily. The 100 yard swim along the coast is impossible without one. This is one of my favorite dives on the island because it’s fairly easy (it’s all at the surface and there are no crazy currents or anything) and the payoff is huge.Ī good dive light is crucial for this dive. On my first manta ray dive I swam with them for about an hour before they receeded into the blackness and ever since then I’ve been addicted. Sitting in their midst is awe inspiring as their massive bodies frolic about as they feed. Here you’re in the water with an animal six times your size. This is completely different from reef snorkeling. The overlook and lounge are right above the bay, so be prepared to have spectators as well.ĭiving with manta rays is an unforgettable experience. ![]() Because the area is frequented by many divers and tours it’s likely that you won’t be the only people there. Knowing this one can still understand how tempting it is to grab hold for a free ride when the animal slides right past your face, just inches from your nose. Mantas that have been touched often will develop pink sores on the affected areas. They have a protective coating of mucus that covers their bodies and protects against infection, and touching them rubs this coating off. They have a have a habit of swimming straight for you and then turning away at the last possible second. ![]() When you return you’ll be able to see them and find a safe path out, but for now it’s best to get away from the rocks.Īfter entering the ocean we swim the 100 yards to the bay through the dark water, which can certainly be a little unnerving, but when you finally see the light through the water and notice the huge shapes gliding through it, the contrast makes the experience that much better.īefore I know it the mantas are all around us, twirlng and sliding past just inches away. There are many urchins here, so don’t reach for the rocks unless you can see your hands. If there are waves you may need to wait and time your entry between them. You’ll jump directly into deep water, so be prepared. Put on your fins and mask, make sure your dive light is working, and jump in from one of the higher rocks. You’ll see the rocky coastline and a concrete slab that goes into the water. It’s accessed by a footpath from the parking lot and is fairly easy to find. The ocean entry is 100 yards up the coast from the lamp-lit bay. Like many things in Hawaii, this can be dangerous if you’re clueless, but if you’re intelligent and patient you shouldn’t have problems. Anyone planning to enter from shore should be comfortable in the ocean and understand the dangers of entering the ocean from a rocky shoreline at night. Sure, that’s great if you’ve got the money and prefer to have things done for you, but if you’re adventurous you can do this dive from shore and it won’t cost you a dime. Many people do the manta ray night dive at the Sheraton because it’s such a unique experience, but most people pay $100+ to be taken by boat on a guided tour. These lights often attract the rays but there’s never any guarantee that they’ll be there, so before entering the water make sure you confirm that they’re present.Īfter returning to the car and changing into snorkel gear we walk back to the shoreline. There are 3 midsized manta rays spiraling around in the bright waters illumanted by the lights. We arrive at the overlook where a small crowd has gathered. The Hawaiian population is all recorded at. Each Manta has a different pattern of black spots on its belly which can be used to identify the individual. The gills line the inner wall of its mouth, and as the animal flips around you can often see them through the gill slits on its underside. They swim with wide-open mouths, collecting plankton on their gills. Like Whale Sharks, Mantas are plankton feeders. These huge animals are gentle, intelligent, and not dangerous to humans. Manta Rays are massive creatures that can measure up to 20 feet from wingtip to wingtip. This is the domain of the Manta Ray, and we have come to swim with them. One of the largest fish in the sea visits this place regularly. These lights attract zooplankton in large numbers and when that happens plankton feeders soon follow. Here at Keauhou bay they shine bright lights into the coastal waters at night. We arrive at the Sheraton Keauhou Bay, park the car, and proceed up to the ocean overlook attached to the outdoor lounge. The sun’s been down for two hours, there’s no moon, the ocean is just an inky blackness beyond the guardrail. 3/1/2024 0 Comments Coyote howling![]() Most coyote sounds are meant to communicate with each other, warn off unrelated coyotes or other intruders, or alert other family members to potential danger. Coyotes are dedicated parents and committed mates and live highly structured lives that benefit the whole family. The life of a coyote is the life of a predator, but it is also the life of a family member. This will be critical later when you use your howls to get them to come to see who’s trespassing on their land. Coyotes do not form packs of genetically different members. The next thing you need to understand to translate coyote sounds is that you are listening to a family, not a pack. Intelligent, highly communicative, and designed to adapt and thrive in almost any environment, a coyote is also surplus-killing predator. Its slender muzzle, bushy, low-hanging tail, and pointed ears resemble a camouflaged German Shepard. Who is making those coyote sounds and what really is a coyote?Ī coyote is an undomesticated canine native to North America. ![]() Photo credit: Shutterstock/Ronnie Howard How to translate coyote sounds. An inquisitive coyote could just be over the next hill waiting for your call.A lone coyote signals his location to other family members. You can’t deny the excitement of a coyote racing in full speed to the sounds of a dying rabbit, but if your setups have grown cold it may be time to reheat them with a string of howls. One night I called in a pair of youngsters using a short series of howls and ended the sit with a shot on a young female. These bolder sounds could also cause adolescent coyotes to shy from confrontation, but more often than not I still see the younger crowd showing up to assess the situation. The sounds of bickering or fighting coyotes make it sound as if a group is hassling over the last drumstick in the Colonel’s bucket.Ī short burst of challenge howls may cause a dominant coyote to show itself sooner. If you want to take it up a notch you can add additional coyote vocalizations into your setup midway through the sit. Stay alert and occasionally scan into the distance with a binocular to spot peering eyes. How long should you wait? This may take up to an hour. Howls usually don’t spark the same excitement as a prey animal in distress, Coyotes may run to the howl, but typically they walk or trot in for a look. That equals a message that could irk or perk another coyote in an adjoining territory. Your howls will likely carry a mile or more depending on the surrounding environment, and weather. Don't Go Crazyĭon’t get carried away with calling too much. Today I routinely combine my e-caller and mouth calls to sound like a pair bantering to each other. I’ve used elk diaphragm calls combined with a megaphone for decades to imitate howls. The Rocky Mountain Calls Dirty Dog Caller gives you exact lip positioning due to its design. If you don’t own an e-caller, manufacturers produce howlers for a mouth-blown route. ![]() It’s found in the library of every electronic caller and a volley of lone howls may bring in coyotes without adding in any other sounds. The lone howl has merit if you feel coyotes have been pressured extensively, plus it is inviting to young and old coyotes alike. If the complications of using one of the hundreds of sounds on your electronic caller confuse you then simply use a howl to invite a coyote to your party that ends with a bang. If you don’t hear them singing loudly during shooting light it’s a good bet they’re howling after the lights go out. Unlike many animals, coyotes tend to be a very vocal bunch. It’s an invite or an irritant depending on who hears the message. Howling sends similar messages in a cross-country fashion between singles or coyote groups. The message could be “I’m home so come on over for a beer” or “the burgers are almost done on the grill.” Howling to coyotes is like you and I shouting at each other from across a backyard fence. Vocalizing to coyotes may be the easiest and most confidence-building calling tactic in your coyote hunting arsenal. |
